Hand in old batteries at a battery collection point.

Never dispose of old batteries as household waste.

Battery Care

A good battery charge state will help prevent the battery from freezing. A discharged battery can freeze at 23 °F / –5 °C, while a fully charged battery will only freeze at –40 °F / –40 °C.

  • It is important to thaw out a frozen battery before attaching jumper cables.

Prevent battery from discharging
What action do I need to take?

  • Switch off any electrical consumers not required on short trips.
  • When leaving the vehicle, switch off the ignition and remove the vehicle key.
  • Avoid using the PCM when the engine is stopped.

What action do I need to take?

  • Keep the surface of the battery clean and dry.
  • Make sure the connections to the battery terminals are secure.

Preparations for winter use
What action do I need to take?

  • Have the battery checked before winter begins.

Storing the vehicle

  • If the vehicle is to be parked up for long periods in the garage or workshop, close doors, covers, and lids.
  • Remove the vehicle key or, if necessary, disconnect the battery. Switch off the ignition in the case of vehicles with Porsche Entry & Drive.

The alarm system is disabled when the battery is disconnected. If the vehicle was locked before the battery was disconnected, reconnection will trigger the alarm system.

  1. Please see chapter "Alarm System and Passenger Compartment Monitoring" on page 61.

The battery will run down even if the vehicle is out of operation. A discharged battery allows rapid formation of sulfates, leading to premature deterioration of the plates.

  • To maintain battery function, you should charge it roughly every six weeks or connect it to a charge maintenance unit.
Porsche recommends the charger and charge maintenance unit from Porsche Tequipment.
  • Once removed, store the battery in a dark, cool place where there is no risk of frost.

Charging the battery

Battery Explosion Hazards

  • Charge battery in a well ventilated area due to hydrogen gas explosion risk.
  • Never charge a frozen battery. It may explode because of gas trapped in the ice. Allow a frozen battery to thaw out first.
