  • Press button briefly (vehicles with Sport Chrono package: Press button for at least two seconds).
PSM is switched off after a brief delay.
The button's light indicator and the PSM off warning light on the instrument panel light up.
A warning appears on the multifunction display indicating that PSM is switched off.

Information
When braking in the ABS control range, the vehicle is stabilized even when PSM is switched off. Onesided spinning of the wheels is prevented even when PSM is switched off.

However, in exceptional situations it can be advantageous to temporarily switch off PSM:

  1. On loose ground and deep snow.
  2. When "rocking the vehicle free".

Switching PSM back on

  • Press button .
    PSM is immediately active.
The light indicator on the button and the PSM OFF warning light on the instrument panel go out.
A message appears on the multifunction display indicating that PSM is switched on.

Activating off-road PSM (PSM in the off-road driving program)

When off-road mode is switched on, an off-road PSM specially matched to off-road driving is activated automatically to improve traction.

For better driveability on difficult terrain, the PSM response is less sensitive in the low speed range when the vehicle is set to off-road mode.

ABS brake system (anti-lock braking system)

Loss of control of the vehicle
Despite the advantages of ABS, it is still the driver’s responsibility to adapt his driving style and driving maneuvers to the prevailing road and weather conditions, as well as the traffic situation.

The increased safety provided should not induce you to take greater risks with your safety. The limits set by the laws of driving physics cannot be overcome, even with ABS.

ABS does not reduce the risk of accidents owing to an inappropriate driving speed.

ABS ensures:

  1. Full steering control: The vehicle remains steerable
  2. Good driving stability: No skidding due to locked wheels
  3. Optimal braking distance: Shorter stopping distances in most cases
  4. Prevention of wheel locking: No flat spots on the tires

Function
The decisive advantage of ABS lies in the driving stability and maneuverability of the vehicle in hazardous situations.

ABS prevents the wheels from locking during full braking on virtually all road surfaces until just before the vehicles come to a standstill.

ABS begins to take control as soon as one wheel shows a tendency to lock.

The controlled braking process is comparable to cadence braking in very rapid succession.

The driver is warned to adapt the driving speed to the road conditions by a pulsing brake pedal and a "juddering noise".

Full braking is necessary:

  • Fully press the brake pedal during the entire braking operation, despite the pulsing pedal. Do not reduce the braking pressure.

Activating off-road ABS (ABS in off-road mode)
When off-road mode is active, an ABS setup specially matched to off-road driving is activated automatically.

  1. In the event of braking on loose ground, the permissible slip values for ABS braking are increased so that the off-road braking distance is reduced (wheels dig into the surface).
  2. To maintain steering control, off-road mode is switched off automatically in the case of increased steering requirement.
