Battery

Electric shock, short circuit or fire
Touching conductive parts of the vehicle can lead to an electric shock. You can cause a short circuit when working on the vehicle’s electrical system.

The short circuit can cause a fire.

  • Always detach the negative terminal on the battery when working on the electrical system.
  • Tools or conductive items of jewelry (rings, necklaces, watchstraps) must not be allowed to come in contact with conductive parts of the vehicle.
  • Heed the safety warnings and safety symbols on the battery.

Fire or explosion
Many automotive fluids are highly flammable, e. g., fuel, engine or transmission oil. Fuel vapors can combust. A highly explosive electrolytic gas mixture can form when charging lead batteries.

  • Always detach the negative terminal on the battery when working on the electrical system.
  • To avoid static charges building, do not wipe down the battery with a dry cloth.
  • Before touching the battery, first touch the vehicle itself to allow any static charge to dissipate.
  • Never smoke or use naked flames near the battery. Also pay attention to flying sparks, e.g. when cables make contact.
  • Only work on the vehicle outdoors or in wellventilated spaces.

Corrosive electrolyte
Lead batteries contain highly caustic battery acid that can cause damage to the skin and clothing in the event of contact.

  • Protective gloves and goggles must be worn.
  • To prevent acid from leaking out, do not tilt the battery.

Risk of short circuiting, fire and damage to the alternator and electronic control units.

  • The battery should only be removed and installed at an authorized Porsche dealer. Porsche recommends an authorized Porsche dealer, as they have trained technicians and the necessary parts and tools.
  • Always detach the negative terminal on the battery when working on the electrical system.

Fig. 35: Battery

The battery is located under the plastic cover in the front luggage compartment (Fig. 35).

For information on removing the plastic cover:

  1. Please see chapter "Removing and stowing the tire filling compressor" on page 142.
  • When jump-lead starting, never connect the black negative cable directly to the battery.
Always connect the black negative cable to the ground point B (Fig. 36 on page 65).

For information on jump starting:

  1. Please see chapter "Emergency starting" on page 102.

Responding to warning symbols

If the battery is low, the or symbol is displayed on the multifunction display. If the symbol appears, there is a fault in the alternator.

  1. Please see chapter "Warning and Information Messages" on page 284.

Observe the safety symbols on the battery

Consult the Owner's Manual

Wear protective goggles

Keep batteries away from children
