Malfunctions when opening and closing
Emergency operation of tailgate
If the tailgate cannot be opened with the car key (e.g. if the battery of the remote control is dead), the emergency operation must be performed:

  1. Unlock and open the driver’s door with the emergency key.
  2. Switch on the ignition within 10 seconds to prevent the alarm system from triggering.
  3. Press the central locking button in the door panel or on the front or rear center console.
The tailgate is now unlocked and can be opened with the unlocking handle.

For information on the emergency key:

  • Please see the chapter "EMERGENCY KEY on page 21.

Only one door is unlocked
The setting for locking and unlocking the doors and tailgate has been changed on the multifunction display in the instrument panel. You can open all doors irrespective of the selected setting.

  • Press button on the key twice within 5 seconds.

The vehicle cannot be unlocked
The remote control of the key may

  • not function correctly due to radio waves (also radio contact between remote control and vehicle in the case of Porsche Entry & Drive),
  • fail due to a fault,
  • fail due to a flat key battery.

If the vehicle cannot be opened, then:

  • Hold the remote control at the top of the rear window in the middle and press the button.

If the vehicle still cannot be opened, then:

  1. Unlock and open the driver’s door with the emergency key removed from the remote control.

For information on the emergency key:

  • Please see the chapter "EMERGENCY KEY" on page 21.
  1. Switch on the ignition within 10 seconds to prevent the alarm system from triggering.
Further procedure for vehicles with Porsche Entry & Drive:
If the ignition cannot be switched on or the engine cannot be started, the message "Key not recognized" will appear on the multifunction display.
  2. Turn the control unit back to ignition lock position 0.
  3. Start engine again.
If the engine cannot be started, the message "Key not recognized" will appear again.
After approx. 1 second, the message "Panel: turn left, pull off, put ignition key" appears.
  4. Turn the control unit back to ignition lock position 0 and remove from the ignition lock.
Switch the ignition on using the ignition key (not the emergency key).

The vehicle cannot be locked
This is recognisable by the fact that the emergency flasher does not flash and there is no locking noise.

The remote control of the key may

  • not function correctly due to radio waves (also radio contact between remote control and vehicle in the case of Porsche Entry & Drive),
  • fail due to a fault,
  • fail due to a flat key battery.
  • Lock the vehicle using the emergency key in the door lock.

If the central locking system is defective, operating the lock cylinder in the driver’s door will lock all functioning locking elements of the central locking system.

For information on locking the doors by means of the emergency operation:

  • Please see the chapter "NOT ALL VEHICLE DOORS ARE LOCKED" on page 36.
  • Have faults in the central locking system repaired. Please contact a qualified specialist workshop. We recommend that you get an authorized Porsche dealer to do this work as they have trained workshop personnel and the necessary parts and tools.
