Changing a wheel and removing 0.2 in. (5 mm) spacers
Incorrect mounting of the
collapsible spare wheel
Risk of accident if spacers are not removed before
mounting the collapsible spare wheel.
Always remove 0.2 in. (5 mm) spacers before
fitting the collapsible spare wheel because
otherwise the wheel cannot be fitted correctly.
Risk of damage to the wheel housings if the spacers on the rear axle are not removed before fitting snow chains.
0.2 in. (5 mm) spacers must always be removed from the rear axle when snow chains are to be fitted.
Remove spacers if snow chains or a collapsible spare wheel are to be fitted.

Remove 1 wheel bolt (vehicles without PCCB) or 2 wheel bolts (vehicles with PCCB).
Screw in assembly aid instead of wheel bolt.

Remove the remaining wheel bolts.

Remove the wheel.
Remove the spacer A.
Fit the wheel.
Insert wheel bolts and tighten by hand.
Remove assembly aid and screw in remaining wheel bolt.
Initially tighten bolts only slightly in diagonally opposite sequence so that the wheel is centered.
Inflate the tire if necessary.

Lower the vehicle and remove the jack.
Tighten wheel bolts in diagonally opposite sequence.
Immediately after changing a wheel, use a torque wrench to check the prescribed tightening torque of the wheel bolts (118 ftlb. (160 Nm)).
For wheel mounting without a spacer, 0.2 in. (5 mm) shorter wheel bolts must be used.
